TPLO Incision Care After Surgery

Below is an assortment of pictures displaying below average, average, and above average incisional healing. Here are a few things to remember while the incision is healing.

You must prevent your pet from licking or chewing the incision site. Licking or chewing at the incision may cause premature removal of the sutures and/or incisional site infection, both of which may require a second procedure to repair. Unless otherwise instructed by your veterinary surgeon, an E-collar must be in place at all times when your pet is not under your immediate supervision.

It is completely normal for swelling to develop around the ankle approximately 3-5 days following surgery on the leg the TPLO was performed on. This swelling can be massaged if it occurs. It will go down over the course of a few days.
